With Deep Dish Bournemouth kicking off again, we would love to introduce you to all of the amazing coaches that will be leading our sessions this summer! Check out our series of interviews with our coaches to get to know them better, and remember to book into sessions to get coached by them while you can!
First up.... Sam Reid!
How long have you been coaching ?
I have been playing beach for over 10 years and indoor for 15 years, I started coaching juniors 3 years ago alongside beginners, also coaching improvers and intermediates over the last 2 years for both indoor and beach, last year and this year I have spent 5 weeks with deep dish out in Portugal coaching and running tournaments for all levels.
Can you tell us a bit about your career?
My current career, I am a baker in a local bakery in Bournemouth (Bigwigs) and coaching a few times a week volleyball.
What are you most looking forward to this summer with Deep Dish Bournemouth?
This year I’m looking forward to growing the community in Bournemouth and creating a local league or some sort of local tournament for people not quite at the 2*/3* level yet to help progress them to the higher levels and grow the sport.
Do you have a favourite drill or skill to coach?
My favourite drill is sand angels, lying face first and creating a sand angel then developing defensive pickups from pick ups from their knees to the point people can dive and pick up any balls from standing, great fun and real development in defence is made.
Why should players join us at Deep Dish Bournemouth?
Bournemouth is the best place in the country for volleyball from events to the weather, so with all the great coaches, opportunities and resources we can use can become a great club to learn a lot!
Best advice or top tip for up and coming beach volleyball players or beginners wanting to get into the sport?
Best advice, just jump straight in the deep end, the more you train and learn the faster you will progress, the better players you play with their skills and knowledge will rub off on you and mould you into a good player.
What is a life changing book/movie/quote that you highly recommend to other people?
It ain’t about how hard you hit it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward- Rocky
We hope you will join us for an incredible summer at Deep Dish Bournemouth, whether you're a Complete Beginner or an Experienced Expert, we have classes for every level.
Make sure to start booking into our classes soon as we're filling up quickly!
