Our three Indoor Volleyball U15 teams are coming home with an outstanding result after Round 1 of the London Grand Prix Competition
This past weekend we had three of our Indoor U15 teams take their first steps into the top level of junior competition.
We had our Tier 1 and Tier 2 U15 Boy teams and our Tier 2 U15 Girls team go home with some convincing wins against their fellow London Clubs, resulting in a Gold Medal for the Girls, and a Silver and Bronze Medal for the Tier 1 and Tier 2 U15 Boys.
Tier 2 U15 Girls | Gold Medal
Our Girls made the trip to compete in Richmond in a 9 team format. The girls had an exceptional day, where they started off topping their pool against Richmond and AST Volleyball, and then kept the winning streak going all the way into the Gold Pool. In an incredible performance, the girls only dropped one set throughout the entire gold pool playing against Ashcombe Dorking A and Ashcombe Dorking B, to become tournament winners, and bringing back the Gold Medal! On to the next!
Coach Marc Garcia said: "This was a wonderful step for our girls, we are extremely proud of them bringing home the gold. We will be looking to bring this same group of players through to the Tier 1 competition next year."
Tier 1 U15 Boys | Silver Medal
The Tier 1 U15 Boys had a great day playing against London Lynx, Dulwich, Wapping Wildcats, and Richmond A. The Tier 1 boys topped their pool play not dropping a single set, to make it to the finals against Richmond. They played exceptionally and pushed the defending champions all the way and narrowly lost the second set 24-26, ending with a Silver Medal! The Team will now regroup with other teams and will look to climb the rankings to gain a place in the Last 8's.
Coach Amber Davis said: "It was incredible to see our boys make some history for the Club and compete in Tier 1. They played so well and we cannot wait for Round 2 of the Grand Prix."
Tier 2 U15 Boys | Bronze Medal
The Deep Dish Tier 2 U15 boys had a fantastic tournament playing against clubs from in and around London. The team performed exceptionally well with the majority of the team having played for less than a year. They played against the Little Giants, Malory Eagles and Sideout. As their first tournament together, and for most ever, they spent the first couple matches getting used to the atmosphere and competitive vibe. They gained momentum into the semi finals, facing our old rivals, Team Sideout, but coming up just short of the finals losing in a close 26-24 thriller match! “The best game of the day” some supporters said. But that didn’t stop them coming back stronger and taking the Bronze Medal!
Coach Ella Watson said: "I love coaching them and being part of this team! And this weekend was great fun for the boys as they started their volleyball journey. Excited to see them develop. Bring on Grand Prix Round 2!"
Congratulations to all our Junior U15 Indoor players for an outstanding weekend! We can’t wait to see what the next round brings!
